Alfred John Renteria, 83, of Castro Valley, CA, passed away on February 23, 2018 in Castro Valley, CA.
Al was born in Oakland, CA to Pedro and Rose Renteria on February 7, 1935. He graduated from Fremont High School, Oakland and married the love of his life, M. Magdalena Grajeda on June 28, 1958 at Sacred Heart Church in Oakland, CA. Al spent his professional career as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the City of Oakland for 31 years. He had proudly served his country in the California National Guard. Al was a lifelong car enthusiast and enjoyed target shooting. His favorite vacation spot was Tuolumne County where he loved spending time at the family cabin with his beloved dog, Sammy. In his free time, Al was involved in St. Lawrence O’Toole’s Men’s Club and coached CYO sports there. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed.
Al is survived by wife, Maggie, sons, John and Edward, daughters in law, Laurie and Sheri, and 7 grandchildren: Jason, Caitlin, Sarah, Jack, Jake, Lola and Jenna.
Al is preceded in death by his younger brother Peter, his father Pete, and his mother Rose.
Visitation will be Monday, March 5, 2018 between 4-8pm. with a Vigil beginning at 7pm. at Grissom's Chapel and Mortuary 267 E. Lewelling Blvd. San Lorenzo, CA 942580. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 beginning at 10:00am. at ST. John’s Catholic Church 264 E Lewelling Blvd San Lorenzo, CA. Interment will follow at ST. Mary’s Cemetery, 4529 Howe St, Oakland, CA 94611. Arrangements entrusted into the care of Grissom’s Chapel and Mortuary, San Lorenzo, CA.
