Elsie Hoff, fifth child of eight, of the late Isaac Bronson Rice and Hazel Bush Rice, was born in Middletown, Ohio, on May 1, 1923.

Throughout her childhood, and high school, Elsie participated in numerous musical performances, and the school chorus. During her adult life she became a member of the prestigious New Haven Chorale, and also enjoyed singing in a group with her sisters called the “Rice Trio” and performed in a variety of venues. The proudest accomplishments in her mid 50’s was returning to college to pursue a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degrees. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming an Elementary School Teacher. Mrs. Hoff was employed by St. Martin De Porres Catholic School and the New Haven Public Schools for several years.
