Sara Frances Eagling, a long time resident of Danville, California, passed away on February 21, 2018. She was 89.

Sara was born July 1, 1928 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Opal and William Howell. She studied French and English at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and went on to become a teacher. Sara and Don met in Nags Head, North Carolina, and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last April. They lived in Michigan and Ohio before settling in Danville, California.

Sara cultivated a love of the French language throughout her life, and travelled to France over 25 times, most recently in 2017 with her husband and daughters. She was also passionate about art, film, theater, and opera, as well as her work with the American Association of University Women.

She was preceded in death by her son, Donald David Eagling; and brother, William Howell. Sara is survived by her husband Donald G. Eagling, and children Leslie Carlsen, Steven Eagling, and Claire Dudan; brother, David Howell; grandchildren, Lindsey Singh, Jorgen Carlsen, Kelsey Le Moal, Kyle Eagling, Thomas Eagling, Sara Eagling, Dylan Dudan, Sadie Dudan, and great grandchildren, Clara Singh and Sunita Singh. 

Services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Danville, CA at 11:00am. Burial will be at Oakmont Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, CA immediately following the church service. 

A reception will be hosted at the Eagling residence in Danville at 1:30pm.  In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that contributions be made in Sara’s honor to the Contra Costa Food Bank.
