Jerry Thomas Johnston passed away in Castro Valley, CA, on October 7, 2018 at the age of 71. He was born December 17, 1946 in Oakland, CA to parents Margaret “Peggie” and Gerald Johnston.
Jerry retired after a life of many varied jobs and careers - everything from running a bar to working as a computer technician. He held a number of Associate’s degrees, Bachelor’s degrees and trade licenses, and attended numerous colleges and trade schools, obtaining many awards and certificates along the way. Jerry always went above and beyond in all that he did, for every occupation. He was truly a “jack of all trades.”
Jerry enjoyed membership in the NRA, where he was an honor roll member, as well as in Clampers “ECV,” the American Legion, and the Elks Lodge.
Jerry also was a proud Army Veteran. He served for three years before he was honorably discharged for medical reasons in 1967.
Jerry is survived by his children Jamie Johnston, Darrell Johnston (Melissa Johnston) and Jerrod Johnston; grandchildren Alexander Johnston, Jerrod Johnston Jr., Faith Johnston, Trinity Johnston, and Maya Johnston; and siblings Sharon Lovenz (Gary), and Robbin Knepp.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Deanna Love; daughter Antoinette Johnston; parents Margaret “Peggie” Davis and Gerald Johnston; and brother Steven Johnston.
Visitation for Jerry will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, at Grissom's Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA 94580, with military services to be held at 1 PM, also at Grissom's.
Jerry will be laid to rest with his wife Deanna Love.
